This weekend marks the release of the final Harry Potter film. While I am not really a “super fan”, nor was I an early adopter, this event saddens as much as excites me. I’m certainly looking forward to the new movie, with the bittersweet edge of knowing there will never again be a midnight release party.

Lucky for me, we have an independent theater nearby that enjoys such events as much as I do. By “nearby” I mean 20 miles away, unfortunately, because our truly local theater is not up and running. It’s still an old-school, small-town theater, locally owned, and operated enthusiastically. If you have one near you, I heartily recommend skipping the multi-plex at least once in a while and help keep the historic old theaters that remain, alive. But I digress…

We are enjoying Potterfest this week. Each day there is a double feature, showing all 8 movies in 4 days, ending of course with the midnight premiere of the final movie Thursday night. Free “wizard corn” (flavored popcorn), party favors, free candy, contests, door prizes, and a full feast Thursday before the last two shows. And all of this for the mere few who were able and willing to sign up for the week-long festival. Today, between Azkaban and Goblet, each of us was given a watch (yes, really), and one of a selection of toys. Between myself and B and C (poor A is at camp this week, only able to go Thursday night), we got a Time-Turner, a Horcrux locket, and a collapsible wand.

I can’t wait to see what else our local theater-master has in store this week. And if you’re not a Potter fan, well, sorry for the interruption. I’m just having a lot of fun this week. :)
